This is an interesting story. UK based developer Majestic Studios recently released the PC adventure game Limbo Of The Lost after over a decade of development. Sometimes when playing a game, I get the feeling that I have seen it before, or that it is similar to another title. However, Limbo Of The Lost appears to have pretty much copied and pasted environmens from Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, as well as elements from several other titles.

GamePlasma (link) were the first to discover these similarities, but over at NeoGaf forums, they have found many more. Scenes appear to have been stolen from games Silent Hill 4, Painkiller, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, Thief 3, Crysis, Spawn, BioShock, Unreal Tournament 2004, Baldur’s Gate, FMV from Pirates of the Caribbean, and even some spoken dialogue from Rune. Although this ha yet to be confirmed, internet message boards are ablaze with comparison screenshots, and publisher Tri Synergy has now pulled the game from retail.

It is a brilliant story, and even more humourous due to this quote from the Majestic team :

“The project is more influenced by film and literature rather than other games, we want the experience to be as original as possible and as such we have made a calculated effort to keep away from other games in the genre. Limbo of the Lost is an experience first and foremost, secondly wrapped up in a game media and genre.”
